What is the environment of the vagina?
pH 3.5-4 so it inhibits pathogen growth
What is the vestible?
area enclosed by the labia majora and minora that contains the urinary and vaginal openings
Which glands release lubrication during intercourse?
greater vestibular and lesser vestibular glands
How many cells are viable after oogenesis?
only one but four are produced
What is folliculogenesis?
the process of forming a follicle and it happens during oogenesis
What is the follicular phase?
begins with menstruation and goes until ovulation - releases follicles to prepare for ovulation
What is ovulation?
when the mature follicle ruptures and releases the egg due to LH
What is the luteal phase?
goes from the day after ovulation until menstruation when the follicle becomes the corpus luteum and becomes inactive scar tissue if not pregnant
What does the negative feedback system do?
Inhibits a woman from getting pregnant when she already is
What hormones does the corpus luteum release?
progesterone, estrogen, and inhibin
What is the proliferative phase?
the period of rebuilding endometrium
When does ovulation occur in respect to the proliferative phase?
at the end because of the release of LH
What is the secretory phase?
the last phase of the menstrual cycle when mucus is secreted to block things from entering the uterus
What happens to the uterus during the excitement phase?
rises from a forward tilting position to a vertical one
What is thelarche?
onset of breast development that is controlled by progesterone, estrogen, and prolactin
