Oogonia divide to form germ cells (mitosis)
After 7th month most oogonia die
Remaining oogonia enter 1st meiotic division (primary oocytes)
Progress until the diplotene stage at which point they are maintained until puberty

GnRH (gonadotrophin releasing hormone)
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone)
LH (leutinising hormone)
