What is cervical cancer
Caused by persistent HPV infection and is diagnosed by PAP test and biopsy.
What are the risk factors of cervical cancer?
Risk factors are early age for first infections, multiple sex partners, cigarette smoking, undetected HPV
Signs of cervical cancer
Bleeding between menstrual periods, after sex, after menopause; unusual vaginal discharge
Chronic ulcer and induration are early signs of carcinoma, although the lesion may or may not show on the exocervix
Prevention of cervical cancer
HPV vaccines for girls and boys
What are human papillomavirus genital warts
Painless warty growths; may be unnoticed by women. Pink or flesh coloured. Occurs with HPV infection
What is chlamydia?
The most common STI
Minimal or no symptoms. May have urinary frequency, dysuria, vaginal discharge
What is gonorrhea
Variable: vaginal discharge, abnormal uterine bleeding, abscess in Bartholin or Skene glands, 95% of cases are asymptomatic
What are some sex ed patient teachings for adolescents
Routine HPV vaccine
Providing info on how to prevent pregnancy and ST
Sexual orientation
Use of alcohol and drugs
