- bulb of the vestibule
What is the vulva?
the female genitalia collectively
What is the mons pubis?
- a rounded elevation anterior to the pubic symphysis

What are the labia majora?
- two elongated folds which run downward and backward from the mons pubis
- homologous to the scrotum
- contain fat and the terminal portion of the round ligament
What is the pudendal cleft?
narrow slit between the labia majora containing the labia minora and vestibule
What is the anterior labial commissure?
where the labia majora meet anteriorly
What is the posterior labial commissure?
- depression where labia majora approach each other (but do not meet) posteriorly
- overlies the perineal body
What are covered with hair after puberty?

- anteriorly, each divides into lateral and medial parts
- posteriorly, they fuse to form the frenulum of the labia minora (fourchette)
What do the lateral parts of the labia minora form?
they fuse to form the prepuce of the clitoris
What do the medial parts of the labia minora form?
they fuse to form the frenulum of the clitoris
What is the vestibule?
the cleft between the labia minora
What openings does the vestibule contain?
- urethra
- vagina
- greater vestibular glands
What is the hymen?
a membranous crescentic fold which partially closes the opening of the vagina into the vestibule in virgins
What is the clitoris?
- homologous to the penis
