Female Embryogenesis Flashcards
1
Q
What happens in absence of SRY protein?
A
sex cords fragment into clusters of epithelial cells that each surround a PCG
-each cluster forms a primordial follicle along the cortex of the ovary
2
Q
Developmental sequence of embyronic ovaries
A
- Both paramesonephric and mesonephric ducts are intact, coelomic epithelium of primitive gonads will develop into ovarian cortex
- Rete tubules and sex cords regress and paramesonephric duct enlarges
- Primitive follicles begin developing in cortex, mesonephric tubules and ducts keep regressing
- Clusters of follicles develop at periphery of ovary, sex cords are gone and gonad resembles an ovary (has cortex and medulla), mesonephric ducts and tubules are gone
3
Q
Developmental sequence of female repro tract
A
- Fusion of caudal part of paramesonephric ducts to one other and to budding UG sinus
- Further fusion of ducts to form cranial portion of uterus and cervix, bud of UG sinus elongates to develop vaginal canal further
- Vulva & vestibule are formed by ectoderm that invaginates in mesoderm-derived repro tract
4
Q
Is the female repro tract retroperitoneal?
A
Yes, it is supported by the broad ligament, a layer of dorsal peritoneum (mesentry)
5
Q
Paramesonephric ducts and gonadal regions
A
Cranial regions stay seperate from one another and will develop into uterine horns and oviducts, ducts get closer to one another as they move caudally
