Typically minor trauma to dermis
Followed by:
contiguous spread between septae -> multiple compartmentalized abscesses

Anaerobes

Flexor Tenosynovitis
Osteomyelitis

Management
A
Unilateral longitudinal Incision and Drainage + irrigation + small wick
Swab for gram stain and culture
Dry, sterile dressing with extremity elevation
TMP-SMX DS
1 tab PO bid
7-10 days
+/-
Cephalexin 500 mg
1 tab PO qid
7-10 days
Follow up in 48 hrs

Antibiotics if anaerobes are suspected

Clindamycin OR Clavulin
