Constitution
A set of rules that establishes how a country should be governed
Constitutionalism
Government in which power is distributed and limited by a system of laws that must be obeyed by the rulers
Codification
The process of setting out a constitution in an organized way in a single document
Codified constitution
A constitution that has been written down in an organized way in a single document
Uncodified constitution
A constitution that has not been written down in an organized way in a single document
Entrenchment
When a constitution is legally protected from arbitrary amendments (changes) to it
Separation of powers
The doctrine that all political institutions in a state should be separate from each other
Constitutional monarchy
Political system where a constitution limits the power of the monarch
Parliamentary government
A political system where Parliament is a key feature
Parliamentary sovereignty
The principle that Parliament is the ultimate source of all authority and power within the political system
