what is meant by personal budgets?
A personal budget is an amount of money agreed by the LA that an individual spends to meet their needs (in their support plan).
what are the 2 types of payments for personal budgets?
direct payments & managed accounts
personal budgets: what is meant by direct payments?
Direct payments are managed by the person or their family/advocate if they lack mental capacity.
personal budgets: what is meant managed accounts?
Managed accounts are managed by the LA on the person’s behalf.
what is co-production?
- The idea is about empowering the individual to contribute to their communities.
- Using the advice of the individual in their care.
- multi agency’s working together (service users & service).
give an example of co-production?
For example social workers, service users and carers working together to co-produce support organisations.
what is meant by choice and control?
Helping people to make more choices over their care.

This feature is about increasing their autonomy (Independence).
what is a self-assessment of needs?
- About the outcomes the individual wants from their care and support.
- A professional will work with the individual to suggest preventive measures to reduce risks to them.
- The professional will also carry out a needs assessment on the Individual.
what’s the changing role of professionals?
- everyone is responsible for personalisation (eg care home or nursey).
- this wasn’t the case as a few years ago personalisation isn’t followed.
- Practitioners can now empower individuals rather than disempower them.
