16
Q

How are covalent bonds formed?

A

When a pair of atoms share a pair of electrons the electrostatic attraction between this electron pair (negative) and the nuclei of the two atoms involved (positive) holds the atoms together.

17
Q

How do you know the difference between Ionic, Metallic and Covalent bonding?

A

Ionic = A non metal and a metal
Metallic = A metal and another metal
Covalent = A non metal and another non metal

18
Q

How does an ion become aqueous?

A

In atomic solid, the positive and negative ions are locked together in the crystal. However if the substance dissolves in water, the ions all separate out and interact individually with the water molecules.
