DEFINITION OF A FAMILY:
A
Two or more persons who are related by blood, marriage/defacto relationship, adoption, step or fostering who usually live in the same house.

DEFINE “NUCLEAR FAMILIES”
A
- comprises of a mother, father, child/ren living in the same house.
- parents may be married or in a de facto (committed without marriage title) relationship

DEFINE “SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES”
A
- a mother OR father caring for a child/ren

DEFINE “STEP/BLENDED FAMILIES”
A
- parents from other relationships / or re-marry
- and care for children from previous relationships
- may also be children from the current relationship

A
- mother, father, children and relatives (usually grandparents) sharing a house or living in close proximity to eachother.

A
- couples who decide not to have children / can’t have children
- may or may not be married
- a male and female in a committed relationship

A
- couple caring for child/ren that is not biologically their own.
- fostered = becomes part of family for certain amount of time
- adopted = permanently becomes part of the family

- group of people who live together
- share household duties / responsibilities
- not usually related by blood

A
- couple of the same gender in a committed relationship with or without children.

- families are smaller (people are having less children)
- couples are having children later on in life
- marriage rates have declined and divorce rates have increased
- mothers are more into the workforce (no longer stereotypical stay at home mum)
- view on racial couples and same sex couples has changed
