EYES Posterior Segment Flashcards
Posterior Segment:
Area behind the eye lense
contains: Vitrous humor, posterior sclera, choroid, retina
Vitrous Humor:
thick-gel in posterior segment
function: holds retina in place, maintains spherical shape of eyes
Posterior Sclera:
white-tissue covers outer posterior segment of eyes
Posterior Choroid:
pigmented layer, deep to the posterior scalera
cotains arteries/veins
Retina:
sensory portion of posterior segment
receives light/visual stimuli & sends brain visual info
photo-receptor neurons rods/cones
Optic Disk:
round area on retina, where the Optic Nerve enters the eyes
Blind spot, no photoreceptors
Macula:
lateral to the optic disk
contains Equea
Fovea Centralis: depression in center of the macula, highest concentration of CONES
