covers anterior portion of eyelids
manually protects the eye
Superior & Inferior Palpebrae
Eye lashes:
keep debris ut of eye
Sebaceous gland:
secretes sebum to lubricate the anterior surface of eyes
Conjunctivae;
thin muscus membraneous of inner surface of each eyelid & anterior scalera
contains immune cells
Bulbar and palperbal conjuctivae:
Bulber- anterior scalera
Palperbral- inner surface of palperbael eyelid
Lacrimal Apparatus:
lacrimation-secretion of tears
Lacrimal fluid-tears
lubricates the CORNEA & CONJUCTIVAE
Lysozyme- anti-bacterial enzyme in tears
Larimal Glands:
produce lacrimal fluid/tears
location: lateral/ superior palpebrae/eyelids
Punctum:
tiny openings in medial compus
function:drains tears into canals
Lacrimal Canal:
drains tears into sacs
Lacrimal Sacs:
collects tears
Nasolacrimal Duct:
drains lacrimal sac into the nasal cavity
