MTQ: pt had pain after eye dilation –> pn with eye pressure
hx of past eye surgery or trauma
- peripheral field of vision loss
open angle glaucomma
painless, slowly developing central vision loss
age related Macular degeneration
“dry”
wet: sudden, painless loss of vision
fundoscopic findings: drusen, hemorrhages exudate
- sudden, painless loss of vision
“wet” macular degeneration
- decr night vision
- hereditary condition
- yellow waxy disc
- genetic counseling recommended
- child
retinitis pigmentosa
unilateral vision loss
pop: DM, HT, smoking
PE: hear ipsi carotid bruit
amaurosis fugax
ddx btw amaurosis fugaz and MS
MS:
- spinal tap: incr AB
- NVC: decr N conduction
central vision loss & demyelination disorders or infection
optic neuritis
- trunk M ache (polymyalgia), sudden vision loss
- jaw claudication
- elevated C-reactive protein
- ESR
- unilateral temporal HA
temporal arteritis
genetic deletion of chromosome 13
- deteriation of vision
- red/ irritated eyes
- strabismus
- dx under 3 yo
retinoblastoma
philedalphia chromosome
incr WBC
splenomegaly
leukemia
- nasal lacrimation
- horner’s sx
- pacial pn over the orbit
pop: smokers and alcohol (middle age males)
