A

Meibomian gland dysfuction
Leads to styes and chalazions

How is blepharitis managed?

A

Hot compress

Gentle cleaning of eyelid with cotton wool, sterile water and baby shampoo

What is a stye?

A

Hordoleum externum: infection of gland of Zeis or glands of Moll- tender red lump caused
Hordoleum internum: meibomian gland infection- deeper and more painful

Treated with hot compress and analgesia

What is a chalazion?

A

Meibomian gland cyst. Non tender eyelid swelling

What is entropion?

A

Eyelid tiwns inward against eyeball. Corenal damage and ulceration
Managed with tape the same day (eyedrops provided) then surgery (same day referral)

A

Eyelid turns out (usually lower) leading to exposure keratopathy

What is trichiasis?

A

Inward growth of eyelashes- treated with removal, and cryotherapy/laser if recurrent

Orbital cellulitis

A

Pain around eyeball behind orbital septum
Pain on eye movemenbt, reduced eye movement, vison change, and abnormal pupil
Admit and IV ABX
