How does conjuctivitiis present?
A
Uni or bilat Red eyes Bloodshot Itchy Discharge NOT painful, photophonia or decreased acuity

How do you distinguish viral from bacterial conjuctivitis?
A
Bac- Purulent discharge, worse in morning and one eye spread to other
Viral- common, clear discharge, cough, sore throat etc, lymph nodes preauricular

Conjusctivitis

Subconjuctival haemorrhage

A
Glaucoma Ant Uve Scleritis Corneal abrasions Keratitis Foreign body Trauma

What abx is used for conjuctivitis?
A
Chlamphenicol and fusidic acid

What do you need to be aware of in neonates with conjuctivitis?
A
Gonorrhoea risk can cause loss of viision and pneumonia- need urnegnt review

What is Tarbut’s test for red eye?
A
Bring finger in and eyes have to adjust causes pain as eyes constrict and converge
