Subconjuctival haemorrhage
Small blood vessel has burst. Is like a bruise in the eye
Subconjuctival haemorrhage Treatment
Self limiting within a few days up to 2 weeks.
Considering
Is there any vision loss, trauma or photophobia present
RED FLAG symptoms
Moderate to severe eye pain
Marked redness of the eye
Ciliary injection-> deep vessels around the white part of the eye
Reduced visual acuity
Severe photophobia
SERIOUS CAUSES of red eye
Acute glaucoma
Keratitis(corneal ulcer)
Iritis/uveitis
Keratitis
Corneal ulcer :pain unilateral photophobia and injected eye
Acute glaucoma
Raised in the intra-ocular pressure with pain in the eye, headache and blurred vision
Conjunctiva
Thin protective membrane that covers the white of the eye and inside eyelids
Classification of conjunctivitis
Irritant
Viral
Bacteria ->staphylococcus species
Chlamydia baby -> REFER
Infected Conjunctivitis symptoms
Eye discomfort ,burning minimal photophobia , eyelid stuck (green/yellow discharge), blurring in vision, history of close contact with somebody who had it.
First line treatment
Self care advice
Self care advice
Wash hands
Avoid touching it
Avoid sharing towel
No contact lenses(through them and use new one when the infection has been cleared).
Treatment of infected conjunctivitis
Chloramphenicol eye drops 5 day treatment >2yrs.
1 drop every 2hrs for 2 days. 1 drop every 4 hrs for 3 days. Then discharge. NOT in pregnancy or contact lenses.
Storage
Keep in the fridge before opening. After opening you can keep it out of the fridge but ideally put it in the fridge.
Bathing of the eye
Warm water that in pre-boiled, use cotton pad and after is bin dipped wipe from inner corner to the end and through away. Make sure you don’t use it again because it can cause rei infection
