Drooping lid (upper)
Ectoropion
Lower lid loose and rolling out
Entropion
Lower lid rolls in
Presbyopia
Loss of elasticity of the crystalline lens - causes trouble accommodating near and distance
Myopia
Nearsighted - can see close but not far
Hyperopia
Farsighted- see well far but not for close objects
Blindness
Vision worse than 20/200
Asthenopia
Eye strain
Strabismus
Cross eyed
3 layers of tissue
Outer fibrous layer - sclera and cornea
Vascular middle layer - iris, ciliary body, choroids
Thin inner layer - retina
3 Chambers
Anterior
Posterior
Vitreous
Cornea
Allows light to enter the eyes
Iris
Regulates the amount of light that enters the pupil
Lens
Refracts and focuses light on the retina
Pupil
Dilates and constricts to permit light entering eye
Retina
Receives and transmits visual stimuli to the brain for processing
Ciliary body
Produces aqueous humor
Choroids
Network of blood vessels to eyes
Optic disc
Where optic nerve innervates(supplies with nerves) the eye
Macula
Contains largest amount of cones
Immediate assessment needed if:
Penetrating injury
Fracture of orbital bone
Sudden loss of vision
