Eye Flashcards
Choroid vascular layer
Contains multiple layers of vessels that sit within a darkly pigmented stroma
Ciliary body
Contains smooth muscle fibres that originate on the sclera.
Contraction of these fibres decreases tension on zonular fibres + thickens the lens - focuses lens
Cornea
Joins the opaque sclera at the limbus corneae
Innervated by the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal (V) n.
Iris
Regulates amount of light entering the eye
Contains radial smooth muscle + circumferential smooth muscle.
Both muscles receive parasympathetic + sympathetic innervation
Lens
Attached to the ciliary processes via zonular fibres
Focuses light onto the retina.
Optic nerve
Cranial nerve II
Sclera
White part of eye - joins the transparent cornea at the limbus corneae
