What are the signs of ringworm?
-Ring like rash that is red, silver or darker than surrounding skin, scaly, dry, swollen or itchy.
-Can appear anywhere on the body
What can be used to treat ring worm?
-lamisil 1%- fungicidal, binds to keratin to prevent reinfections, 1-2 weeks treatment, 18yrs+
What is the active ingredient in lamasil 1%?
-Terbinafine
What are the signs of acne vulgaris?
-Spots, oily skin, hot/painful to touch
What is the treatment for acne vulgaris ?
-Benzoyl peroxide, antibacterial and removed dead skin cells, start on lower strength, irritation and burning, 12yrs+ suitable in pregnancy
What are the symptoms of eczema?
-Skin becoming itchy, dry, cracked and sore. Can become red on white skin and darker brown, purple or grey on darker skin
What are the symptoms of psoriasis ?
-Red, flaky, crusty patches of skin covered with silvery flakes, normally found on elbows, knows, scalp and lower back
What are the treatment options for eczema and psoriasis?
-Moisturising treatment-covers the skin with a protective film to trap moisture steroids-reduce redness and swelling
What are the strengths of steroid ?
-Mild-hydrocortisone (0.1%-2.5%)
-moderate-clobetasone butyrate
-potent- betamethasone valerate 0.1%
-Very potent -Clobetasol propionate
What are the symptoms of pruitus?
-Itchy skin-from heat rash, insect bites, eczema, adverse drug reaction
What are the treatment options for pruritus ?
-Eurax cream- Use two to three times daily in affected area, will provide relief for 6-10 hours

-Itching hair, as if something is moving

-Hedrin-dimeicone 4% lotion left on hair for a minimum of 8 hours, repeat after 7 days
What are the symptoms of public lice?
-Itching in public regions, especially at night
-Black powder in your underwear, blue spots or spots of blood on skin

-Intense itching, especially at night with a raised rash or spots

-Lyclear (permethrin) applied to cover the public region, perianal, inner thighs to the knees left on skin for 24 hours then washed throughly

-Starts with a tingling, itching or burning feeling then small fluid-filled blisters appear

-Bazuka-apply once daily, soak in warm water prior to application and towel dry, file area - okay in pregnancy avoid in diabetics

-Minoxidil-5% men and 2% women- increases blood flow to hair follicles to stimulate growth, apply 1ml twice daily, only works while using medicine
What are the symptoms of dandruff?
-White or grey flakes of skin in the hair or scalp, chronic relapsing, non-inflammatory skin condition, possible association with overgrowth of yeast and fungus
What is seborrheic dermatitis ?
-Red, itchy, inflamed skin complaint
-Seborrheic affects greasy skin tones
How can you treat seborrheic dermatitis ?
-Ketoconazole-nizoral
How do you treat dandruff?
-Dandruff shampoo
What are the main symptoms of melanoma ?
-Appearance of a new mole or a change in an existing mole-irregular shape and more that one colour
