Definition of material deprivation (MD)?
Where someone cannot afford or lacks access to basic, material resources such as food and heating.
Negative impact of MD
Material deprivation negative effect on educational achievement bc students not have access to computers and the Internet at home and poor diet and housing conditions may lead to health problems which can result in time off school.

- Many live-in poor areas with high unemployment and low wage rates.
- Cultural factors Burkah prevents women from working outside the home.
- A lack of language skills, and foreign qualifications not being recognised by UK employers.
- Racial discrimination in the labour and housing markets
What is the defintion of Cultural Deprivation (CD)?
Where some groups, such as the lower social classes have inferior norms, values, skills and knowledge which hold them back in life.
How can CD have a negative impact on W/C?
Cultural deprivation can have a negative effect on the education of working class children: poor language skills can mean the students struggle to understand what they are taught, and the fact that working class parents do not value education means that their children are less likely to stay on at school post-16.
What are the 3 reasons of CD in W/C + ME?

What do CD theorists mean by Intellectual and Linguistic?
LWINC child BF means they lack intellectual stimulation and enriching. Poorly equipped for skl as they have not developed reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Most ppl Socialised into mainstream cultures, instils ambition, competitiveness, and willingness. In contrast, some Blk ppl socialised into subcultures which instils a fatalistic attitude leading to be unequipped for success.
