Extended knowledge Flashcards
Describe the quadricep and patella tendon phenomenon.
- All quadriceps continue as the quadricep tendon and inserted on the top of the patella.
- It continues as the patella tendon when it inserts onto the proximal tibia at the tibial tuberosity.
What is the articularis genu?
Is the deep fibres of vastus intermedius.
What is the function of the articularis genu?
Pulls the capsule proximally and stops it from being trapped between the patella and femur.
Why is the “ex hamstring” part of adductor magnus not considered a hamstring?
Does not cross the hip.
Why is the short head of bicep femoris not considered a hamstring?
- Not supplied by the tibial nerve,
- Does not arise from the pelvis.
What nerve supplies the true adductor?
Obturator nerve.
What nerve supplies the “ex hamstring” part of the adductor magnus?
Tibial nerve.
How is the medial collateral ligament of the knee and “ex hamstring” of the adductor magnus related to each other?
The medial collateral ligament is the vestigial remnant of the lost part of the hamstring of the adductor magnus.
What is the adductor hiatus?
- A space between the two parts of the adductor magnus.
- This is where femoral vessels cross from the front to the back of the thigh.
What nerve supplies the short head of the bicep femoris?
- Has its own nerve supply.
- Common peroneal nerve.
