Extend Criteria Build and Configure Acknowledge Reasons Flashcards
. Create a new rule:
Context: Patient BPA Locator
Name: “ Family History of Heart Attack”
ID: * ﴾Leave the asterisk in the ID field.﴿
Context defines where a rule can be used as well as which properties and settings may be
used in the rule record itself.
The Context of most rules you’ll build for BPA criteria records is Patient BPA Locator
Acknowledge Reason
Enter the available acknowledge reasons a user can pick for this BPA. Select only
the reasons that make sense for your BPA.
Lockout and Unit
For each acknowledge reason, you can specify how long in minutes or hours ﴾Unit﴿ the advisory will wait before appearing again.
This setting works in conjunction with the Applies To field.
If you leave this field blank, the system will use the Default lockout time field below. To hide the BPA indefinitely, enter 1,200,000 hours ﴾the maximum value, which is over 135 years﴿
Applies to
This field determines to which users and which encounters the Lockout Time field applies. The choices: All users, all encounters: The BPA is suppressed for all users for the duration of the lockout time, regardless of which encounter the user is viewing. All users, current encounter only: The BPA is suppressed for all users viewing the encounter that triggered the BPA. If the field is left blank, this is the default value. Current user, all encounters: The user who acknowledges the BPA
won’t see it again for the duration of the lockout time, regardless of which encounter they’re viewing. Current user, current encounter only: The BPA is suppressed for the user who acknowledges it, for the duration of the lockout time, for the encounter that triggered the BPA
Required Comment
To require a user to enter a comment after selecting an acknowledge reason, set this field to Yes.
default lockout time and unit
These field serve two purposes:
They determine the lockout time in minutes or hours for any acknowledge reason listed in the table above that does not have a value in Lockout.
If a value is also entered in Lockout When Action Taken > Acknowledge Reason, the BPA will be suppressed for this amount of time if a user accepts the suggested follow‐up action. This might cause the BPA to be suppressed even if the user chooses to cancel the follow‐ up action after exiting the BPA.
If left blank, the default value is 0 ﴾no lockout﴿.
Acknowledge Reason Requirement
This field determines the acknowledge reason requirement:
None ﴾the default﴿
Always Required ﴾stop sign﴿
Recommended ﴾yield sign﴿
Required if no action taken. If the user accepts the BPA’s suggested action, no acknowledge reason is required. Otherwise, the user must give a reason to dismiss the BPA or leave the navigator.
As a rule, don’t require an acknowledge reason for BPAs that appear in a navigator. The BPA will force users to deal with it before leaving the patient’s chart
Lockout When Action Taken > Acknowledge Reason
If you enter an acknowledge reason in this field, it will automatically apply when the user accepts one or more of the actions from the BPA. The reason satisfies an Acknowledge Reason Requirement of Required if no action taken and Always Required.
Lockout When Action Taken > Lockout time and Applies to
These fields apply ONLY when you enter values for Lockout When Action Taken > Acknowledge Reason AND Default lockout time. The choices for this Applies to field are the same as those in the other Applies To field
