Generic Medication
A generic name is assigned to medication records to show that they’re essentially the same medication,
though they have a different strength or form. It’s a category value set in I ERX 114
Generic medications are maintained by your organization’s medication vendor ﴾e.g. Medi‐Span or FDB in
the United States﴿. Every medication that you receive from this vendor will include a generic medication.
The benefit of using a generic medication is that when new medications are loaded into your system,
they’ll automatically be included in your criteria

Importance level determines:
- Sort order of a BPA when multiple BPAs appear at the same time
- Color of a BPA
Importance level may also determine if a BPA appears collapsed or expanded by default in a navigator.
If you don’t assign an importance level to your BPA, it will appear at the bottom of the list of BPAs under a section called “Other,” which can be confusing to users. Importance levels are category values in a category list [LGL 35]. Your organization may add to or deactivate any values for your needs.
