Base Flashcards
When multiple BPAs fire at once, users should be able to easily distinguish between critical and less critical alerts. To support this, Epic recommends assigning an importance level to each BPA that will display to users.
Importance level determines:
Sort order of a BPA when multiple BPAs appear at the same time
Color of a BPA
if a BPA appears collapsed or expanded by default in a navigator.
to hide BPAs from certain users via the user’s Profile ﴾LPR﴿. This will hide ALL BPAs with this importance level from users affected by this profile
If you don’t assign an importance level to your BPA,
it will appear at the bottom of the list of BPAs under a section called “Other,” which can be confusing to users
Importance levels are category values in a category list [LGL 35].
A trigger is the action in Epic that could potentially cause the BPA to appear to users. There are more than 70 actions that can trigger a BPA. Some are specific, like File Doc Flowsheets, while others are general, like Open Patient Chart.
This list is Epic‐owned. You cannot add new triggers
Without a trigger, a BPA will never fire or display to a user
When you configure a BPA to suggest an order, you must use a _________.
Preference lists allow you to set default doses, routes, frequencies or instructions, which allows for greater flexibility to tailor the order to this BPA
Preference List ﴾LPF﴿
Preference List Composer
- Name: “ bpa aspirin”
- List type: Meds
- Sub type: BestPractice
- Ordering mode: Outpatient ﴾so that the user will order a prescription﴿
Any settings you make under Preference List, including display name, override the defaults that were configured for this medication. This is a benefit of building preference lists for single orders.
When you configure a navigator BPA to allow only a single action, the system ignores the Frequency associated with the follow‐up action when the BPA appears in a navigator
why would you configure the Frequency field for a suggested follow‐up action in a BPA that fires in navigators?
If the BPA has an additional trigger, such as Sign Orders, that would cause it to pop up and interrupt a workflow, the system will reference the Frequency field.
If users should be able to select more than one follow‐up action, then you should not select Only allow single action in navigators in the base record and the system will reference the Frequency field
.True or False: Inclusionary criteria can only ever be used to include patients in a BPA. They cannot be used to exclude patients.
False
You’ve built a BPA with a follow‐up action to place a single order of an influenza vaccine. However, when the alert displays to users in a navigator, the order is not selected by default ﴾which would allow users to accept the BPA and queue up a new order in one click﴿. What could you do to resolve this? Choose ALL answers that apply.
A. Open the base record and change the frequency to Manually Unselected.
B. Open the base record and change the frequency to Manually Selected.
C. Change the preference list Sub type to BestPractice.
D. Open the base record and configure it to allow only a single follow‐up action
Answer: B and D.
Frequency determines whether a single order is selected by default or not and is set in the base record. Manually selected will select the order by default. D. is another option because when you configure a navigator‐based BPA to allow only a single follow‐up action, the system ignores the frequency associated with the suggested order and the user can easily accept the BPA with a single click (which means also accepting the suggested follow‐up action).
C. is incorrect because only preference lists with a Sub type of BestPractice can be added to a BPA. Because the BPA is currently suggesting an order, the Sub type MUST be correct
Multiple BPAs fire at one time and one of the BPAs appears at the bottom of the list in a section named other. What has a builder forgotten to assign to this BPA to make it appear under the appropriate header like “critical” or “important”? In which record is this configured?
Importance Level, at the base record
