What is projection and why is it important?
The energy the dancer uses to
connect to an audience
-Strong projection draws the

What is spatial awareness and why is it important?
Consciousness of the surrounding space and its effective use
-This is used to coordinate
complex choreography with
many dancers.
-Prevents crowding and ensures
the space is used effectively
-Reduces risk of collision and aware of anybody or anything in the injury.
What is facial expression and why is it important?
Use of the face to show mood, feeling or character
-Allows dancer to communicate mood, feeling or character to the audience. Further enhancing the choreographic intent.
What is phrasing and why is it important?
The way in which the energy is distributed in the execution of a movement phrase
-The energy and dynamics of movement and music are used cohesively to create a vibrant performance which is engaging to watch.
What is musicality and why is it important?
-The ability make the unique qualities of the accompaniment are evident in your performance
-Musicality helps convey the mood and choreographic intent of the performance.
-It gives energy to the performance and makes it more refined and polished
What is sensitivity to other dancers and why is it important?
Awareness of and connection to other dancers
-Sensitivity to other dancers keeps us safe, avoids accidents, reducing the risk of injury.
-It creates good use of space ie formations and spatial design.
-It also helps communicate a dance idea and creates
relationships
What is communicating choreographic intent and why is it important?
A dancers ability to
communicate a particular mood, style or theme in order to enhance a performance
-Creates an exciting, engaging, memorable performance for the audience
-Creates a powerful impact for the audience
-Allows audience to clearly follow the choreographic intention throughout
