Explain what therapist drift is and give an example of it in a clinical context.

A

Example explanation: Therapist drift occurs when a clinician deviates from and thus fails to accurately deliver evidence-based treatments, even when having the resources to do so correctly.
Example in clinical context: Protecting the patient: The clinician, concerned about the patient’s fragility, doesn’t address the patient’s avoidance of something (trauma, disability). Avoidance is reinforced and gets in way of achieving key tasks in therapy.
