Describe the (six) components of Beck’s cognitive model and apply it to the development of social anxiety disorder
Early learning experiences, dysfunctional assumptions, negative events, activation of dysfunctional assumptions, dysfunctional cognitions, anxiety/depression.
An example of an early learning experience could be peeing your pants during a presentation (or anything else in which perceived social scrutiny was high) which leads to an assumption like for example “people don’t like me”. A negative event will then occur such as giving a presentation and lots of people looking at their phone or out the window leading you to believe that people indeed don’t like you and don’t like listening to you. A dysfunctional cognition will then arise such as “I am boring these people and they would rather I just left them to go do their thing and stopped bothering them”. If this occurs in enough instances in life, distress will reach a point leading to anxiety or depression.
Which of the following is a definition of cognitive vulnerability?
a. An inactive (latent) state of a process that can be more easily activated in vulnerable individuals
b. An erroneous belief, cognitive bias, or pattern of thought that predisposes an individual to psychological problems
c. The process by which people determine the cause of a particular outcome
b. An erroneous belief, cognitive bias, or pattern of thought that predisposes an individual to psychological problems
The Panic Model was created by whom?
a. Mandler
b. Weiner

What’s the main difference between Bower’s network model and Lang’s?
The models are really alike, but Lang’s is expressing a situation/event into a diagram using predicates (verbs) and arguments, while Bower’s takes a more theoretical approach. You can literally put Lang’s diagram into a sentence (or the other way around), so it can be used in clinical practice to help clients understand the way their mind works.
In short: theoretical vs practical approach to the way humans process emotion.
