Exponents Flashcards
what must we do first when we have exponents that have different bases
we must take each base and break them down as far as we can
how do we break down any number
find any two numbers that when multiplied will equal the original number
what buttons on my calculator can i use to break down a base
num = ; shift + fact
what do we do once we have the same base
multiply them with the original exponents
what do we do once we have the same base and have worked out the exponents
we will add the exponents ( law of exponents) and use the same base for them
what do we do now that we have two bases dividing each other
we subtract the exponents
what happens to square roots when we have a square
we divide them.
It is always the inside number divided by the outside number
what do we do when there is nothing outside of the square root
the exponent is an automatic 2
how do we work out an exponential equation with more than one term
we must factorize instead of cancelling any numbers
how do we factorize numbers with exponents
we do this by breaking them down to the simplest exponents
So we break them up
how do we factorize
- take out the greatest common factor and place it outside of the brackets
- then divide the rest of the equation with the number outside of the brackets
- So we must find the numbers that are in both terms and take them out
- Then we place what is left inside of a bracket
What must we do once we have our brackets
We can now cancel out
Our answer will be with what number we are left with
