Explain how public perceptions of crime have effected policy development?

A

SMOKING:
During the 1930s smoking was incredibly glamourised it was seen as etiquette so socially smoke and doctors even promoted it
In the 1950s the first study linking smoking and cancer was published and attitudes began to shift.
In the Uk campaign groups like ASH began to form.
Effect:
2002: Tobacco advertising and promotion act banned ads at sporting events.
2014: Children and families act= illegal to smoke on cars with children in.
