What is a pressure group?
An organisation that tries to influence government policies in the interests of a particular cause.
Who are INQUEST and what did they do?
INQUEST are concerned about state related deaths (people who die in police custody or prisons etc)
Past involvement in Grenfell tower.
Success:
Used specialist casework and statistics to set up the IPCC (independent police complaints commission) to investigate police misconduct
They are still campaigning for hills borough law so police misconduct cant be covered up.
Who are PAS and what did they do?
Protection Against Stalking
Aimed to make stalking a specific offence as the existing 1977 law didn’t specifically mention it. It was failing 120,000 victims of stalking.
They used press releases to keep the campaign in the public eye and had an inquiry where they head victims and mothers whose children died because of stalking.
Success: 2012 with support from 60Mps and peers they launched protection of freedom act.
