Estrogen and ACh
Rats ovariectomized: 50% got estrogen back and 50% nothing
- The ones who got estrogen back showed a higher release of Ach one their hippo
Number of dendritic spines and estrogen cycle
Prestrus = high estrogen
Diestrus = medium
Estrus = low estrogen
- more dendritic spines in CA1 when low estrogen = estrus
- more NMDAR at the same time and enhaced LTP

Food in 8 arms. Error = re entry in one arm after eaing
Ovaries removed and capsule with powder estrogen / choleserol
- capsule with estrogen = better spatial memory

Place training (reference memory)
4 groups: complex env / isolated env - intact ovaries / ovarectomized
- dumb group = isolted env + INTACT OVARIES
- complex env = very powerful
Estrogen - Working and Reference memory
Only 4 arms have food (reference memory)
Once you ate the food, no need to go back (working memory)
All ovarectomized, half got estroge back
- estrogen = better working memory
- no effect on referecne memory
Estrogen - Hippo - Striatum
Cross maze task - aquisition. All OVECT w/ 50% got E
- better at place learning
- worse at response learning
Estrogen - WM - Ping pong ball
Platform is behind a black ping pong ball. Everyday le platform is moved.
Either they use the ping pong ball to find the platform, or spatial cues
- all learning
- trial 1: cholesterol does better, using the ping pong ball
- trial 4: estrogen does better, using cognitive map

Working memory
- castrated rodents show impairment in spatial memory

Castration decrease performance
Testosterone treatment with castration = compensate and gets better
