experiments Flashcards
1
Q
what is an experiment ?
A
when the researcher deliberately manipulated the IV to see the effects on the DV
- allow the researcher to draw a casual conclusion
2
Q
advantages ?
A
- can assume cause and effect
- can control extraneous variables more easily
3
Q
disadvantages ?
A
- controlled environment may be artificial
- more ethical issues
- real life setting may be difficult to control confounding variables
4
Q
quasi experiment ?
A
not a true experiment Iv has not been deliberately manipulated to see changes in DV.
- would use when it is unethical or impratical to manipulate IV
5
Q
2 types of quasi ?
A
- natural
- difference studies
6
Q
advantages of quasi ?
A
- allows research when it would be unethical or not practical
- enables research on real problems
- more likely to be realistic
7
Q
disadvantages of quasi ?
A
- cannot assume IV was directly responsible for causing DV to change
