Experimental Method Flashcards
the aim
the purpose of an investigation (developed from theories)
hypothesis
a clear and precise prediction stating the relationship between variables
directional hypothesis
states the direction of the difference/relationship by specifying it
non-directional hypothesis
does not state the direction of the difference/relationship. says that there will be a difference but does not specify HOW.
variables
any “thing” that can vary or change during an investigation
independent and dependent
independent variable
a variable that the researcher changes and manipulates during the experiment
dependent variable
a variable that the researcher is able to measure during the experiment
operationalisation
clearly defining how variables will be measured
