Experimental Method Flashcards
Variable
Characteristic that can be changed studied and measured
Independent Variable
Factor that is controlled and manipulated
Dependent Variable
Variable that researchers measure, what is affected
Confounding Variables
Variables that were failed to control or eliminate
Operational Definitions
Carefully worded instructions of the exact procedures used in a research study, important to report studies
Population
Who CAN be studied
Sample
Those who actually participate in the study
Representative sample
A sample that has characteristics similar to those in the population
Random Sample
Each member of the population has an equal chance of getting into the sample group
Random Assignment
Process that assures all members have an equal chance to be in each group (control or experimental)
Single blind
Groups don’t know which group is experimental
Double blind
Neither observer or sample know which group is experimental or control
