Refere to how participants are allocated to the different conditions (or IV groups) in a experiment
The three types are
Independent group design
Repeated measure group design
Matched pair design

What is Independent group design?
A
Different participants are used in each condition of the IV
Separate group of participants for each condition
Should be done by random allocation

What is repeated measure group design
A
Same participants take part in each condition of the IV
This means that each condition of the experiment includes the same group of participants

A
One pair must be randomly assigned to the experiment group and the other to the control group
Normally based on characteristics
