Expansion: conjunctions of condition Flashcards
1
Q
- Use IF to introduce a dependent clause with a condition. IF connects the dependent clause to an independent clause.
- Another way to express a condition is to ask a hypothetical question with WHAT IF.
- UNLESS describes negative condition. It has the same meaning as if plus a negative statement. For example, in the first sentence below, unless the criminal is rehabilitated has the same meaning as if the criminal isn’t rehabilitated.
- Use the expression DEPENDS ON WHETHER to express a condition. Use WHETHER OR NOT to say that something will happen, despite one condition or another.
- Use the phrase IN CASE to express a condition
