Beginning sentences (Locuções para iniciar frases)

Question 1

You can begin a sentence with a PARTICIPLE PHRASE.

This is a good way to ADD EMPHASIS to the INFORMATION in a sentence.

Notice that a COMMA comes AFTER the phrase.

…Seeking to avoid another world war, the European Union was born.
…Frustrated by centuries of war, the Europeans decided to unify.

Question 2

You can also begin a sentence with a PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE.

This provides information about LOCATION or TIME.

Notice again the COMMA AFTER the phrase.
