Exocrine Pancreas Flashcards
1
Q
Dog vs cat pancreatitis
A
- dog: acute, vomit/lethargy, abdominal pain, dietary indiscretion, shock, dehydration, large bowel diarrhea
- cat: chronic, lethargy, anorexia, weight loss, some diarrhea or icterus or fever, not due to dietary indiscretion-idiopathic, non suppurative most common
2
Q
What mechanism prevent intrapancreatic enzyme activation.
Pancreatic pathogenesis
A
Inactive forms, infra cellular compartmentalization, enzyme inhibitors.
Etiologic factors—activation of pancreatic enzymes in pancreas—auto digestion—necrosis and inflammation—trypsin activates other proteins—systemic effects (shock, dic, edema)
3
Q
Triaditis
A
Cholangitis, ibd, pancreatitis
4
Q
Epi-scenario, lesion, pathophysiology. Does it happened in cats?
A
- gsd, weight loss but good appetite, small bowel greasy stool, no improvement after food changes, really wasting
- cats: chronic pancreatitis is the most common cause of epi, pancreas replaced by fibrous tissue, may have concurrent diabetes
