Exhange In Organisms Flashcards
1
Q
Why is it good that fish have gills?
A
Rich blood supply
Constantly moist in water and thin
Constant supply of water means large conc gradient so diffusion is constant
2
Q
What happens when fish are taken out of water?
A
Gills stick together , smaller surface area, so they suffocate
3
Q
Why don’t insects have a blood supply?
A
Due to impermeable cover
Instead O2 and co2 are pumped directly into cells so no need for blood.
4
Q
What do all organisms need?
A
- A large, moist surface area
- A large concentration gradient and a short diffusion distance
