EXERCISE 2 Flashcards
These are important in examining and observing an apparently normal/healthy animal
PRT (Pulse Rate, Respiration Rate, Body Temperature)
Any abnormality in PRT may indicate ______?
disorder
Tactile arterial palpation of the heartbeat (due to a wave of dilation of the blood vessel from the heart) by trained fingertips; Equivalent to heart rate
pulse rate
exchange of gases between the blood and lungs and other organ systems
breathing
resulting balance of heat production and heat dissipation
body temperature
To measure RR of CATTLE / SHEEP / PIG, count rising of _____ for 30 secs and multiply by 2 OR for 1 minute and get 2 readings and get average.
hind flank
how to get PR of cattle?
count for 30 secs then multiply by 2 to get pulse rate per minute on:
- coccygeal artery at base of tail
- carotid artery
- submaxillary artery
how to get PR of goat/sheep?
count for 30 secs then multiply by 2 to get pulse rate per minute on:
- femoral artery at medial side of underside of hindlimb / anterior border of pubis
how to get PR of pig?
count for 30 secs then multiply by 2 to get pulse rate per minute on:
- auscultation by using a stethoscope held at the chest area
how to get body temp of cattle/shep/pig?
carefully insert digital thermometer into rectum for 2 mins. get 2 readings and compute for average
Chicks’ body temperature is measured by?
ear thermometers on vent
wave of systolic pressure (from heart to arterial network)
pulse / pulse wave
structures involved in exchange of gases between bloods and lungs and other organ systems
respiratory system
2 major functions of respiratory system
- supplying oxygen to blood
- removing carbon dioxide from blood
fair index of internal temperature of an animal
rectal temperature
