What does the excretory system do?
remove waste from the body, involves the lungs, skin, liver, kidneys and bladder
How is ammonia produced?
when cells break down proteins they produce ammonia, a toxic compound
What does the liver do?
liver removes ammonia from the blood and turns it into urea.
What do the kidneys do?
filter blood by removing urea, the excess water and salt form urine. The filtered blood returns to the body through the renal vein.
What is the ureter?
where urine flows to get to the bladder
What does the bladder do?
store urine until it can be released through the urethra.
What is a dialysis machine?
it acts as a persons kidneys, it filters blood for people whose kidneys don’t function
What does the skin do in the excretory system?
remove leftover salt from blood through sweating.
