Excretory System Flashcards
Known as the renal system,
produces, stores and eliminates urine, the fluid waste excreted by the kidneys.
Urinary System
How does the Kidney makes Urine?
The kidneys make urine by
filtering wastes and extra
water from blood.
Excretory System
Urinary System
Urine travels from the kidneys through two thin tubes called
ureters and fills the bladder
When the bladder is full, a
person urinates through what excretory organ?
Urethra (to eliminate the waste)
Our body’s filtration system that collects waste products
Kidneys
Muscular tubes that transport urine from each kidney to the bladder
Ureters
A sac that collects and holds urine that comes from the ureters
Urinary Bladder
A narrow passageway where urine passes from the bladder to the outside of the body i.e.
the process of urination.
Urethra
Excretory System – Kidney Functions. Give at least 3 important functions
- Excretion (eliminates waste)
- Regulate blood volume and pressure
- Regulation of the concentration of
solutes in the blood (ion concentration) - Regulation of extracellular fluid pH
- Regulation of red blood cell synthesis
The kidneys are_______?
(Internal Anatomy & Histology)
Highly Vascularize
The kidneys are highly vascular (contain a lot of blood vessels) and are divided into three main regions:
- Renal Cortex
- Renal medulla
- Renal pelvis
middle region which acts as a collecting
chamber.
Renal Medulla
outer region which contains about
1.25 million renal tubules
Renal Cortex
inner region which receives urine
through the major calyces
Renal Pelvis
