It is surface area to volume ratio. Eg Area = 4 x 4 x 2 Area = 32 Volume = 4 x 2 x 2 Volume = 16 32:16 = 2:1

What is the difference between single celled organisms vs multi cellular?
A
Single celled: They have a large surface area meaning they can exchange substances easier.
Multicellular: they have a larger surface area meaning they need a mass transport system to exchange surface area.
