Cells Flashcards
Eukaryotes
Is a cell that has a nucleus and are complex e.g. Animal cell
Prokaryotes
Is a cell that has no nucleus, is smaller and simpler.
Difference and similarities between a animal cell and a plant cell
Animal and plant cell has a cytoplasm, nucleus, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes.
A plant cell has also a chloroplasts, cell wall and large vacuole.
What a bacteria cell has
It has a ribosomes, cell membrane, flagellum, plasmid DNA and chromosomal DNA.
Name 3 specialised cells
Egg cell, sperm cell and ciliated epithetical cells.
What are ciliated epithelial cells
They line the surface of organs and their function is to move substances in one direction along the surface of the tissue. E.g. The lining of the airways, help the mucus get digested instead of inside the lungs.
How are cells studied?
Under a microscope, they use lenses to magnify the images and also increase the resolution.
Why are electron microscopes better than light microscopes?
They use electrons instead of light, which increase the magnification and resolution.
How to use a light microscope?
You need a thin slice of your specimen and you place it on a clean slide with a drop of stain. Select the lowest powered objective lense. Adjust the lenses to see a clear image of the cell.
What is the equation for image size
Image size = magnificent x real size
I ------ A x M
Millimetre into micrometer
1 Mm = 1000 |um
