Electronic file that contains grid of columns/rows used to organize related data ; displays results of calculations, enabling interpretation of quantitative data for decision making
Spreadsheet
Single spreadsheet that typically includes labels, numeric values, formulas, functions, and graphical representations of data
Worksheet
Collection of 1+ related worksheets; housed within single file to keep organized
Workbook
Element located below Ribbon, displays address of the current active cell (can use to go to cell, assign name to cell, select function)
Name Box
Dialogue box that pops up, used to search for & select a function into the active cell
Insert Function
Below ribbon, right of insert function; shows content of active cell; enter/edit here or in cell directly
Formula Bar
Letters A - Z, AA - ZZ, etc.
Column Headings (Horizontal)
Numbers 1 - x
Row Headings (Vertical)
Current Cell, indicated by a dark green border
Active Cell
Visual Label, looks like folder tab; can be renamed and coloured
Sheet Tab
Display at bottom of Excel; shows info of selected command / operation in progress
Status Bar
Normal. Page Layout, Page Break Preview
View Controls
Displays worksheet without margins, headings, footers, page breaks
Normal View
Shows margins, header/footer area, ruler
Page Layout View
Indicates where worksheet will be divided into pages
Page Break View
Intersection of columns/row
Cell
Identified by column letter/row number; unique
Cell Address
Moves to Cell A1
Ctrl+Home
Moves to last cell with data
Ctrl+End
Region in the worksheet to contain formulas dependant on values in input area
Output Area
Region in worksheet to store & change variables used on calculations
Input Area
Any combination of letters/numbers/symbols/spaces not used in a calculation
Text
Searches/Automatically displays any other label in same column that matches
Autocomplete
Helps you complete sequence of word/values (days, months, other key words)
Autofill
Small green square in bottom-right corner of active cell
Fill Handle
Uses data in previous columns as you type in a new label in an adjoining column to determine what to fill in
Flash Fill
Numbers that represent a quantity or measurable amount; align at right of cell margin
Value
Combines cell references, arithmetic operations, values, and/or functions used in calculations; use to help analyze how results change as input changes
Formulas
Order of Operations [ ( ) , ^ , * , / , + , - ]
PEDMAS
Process of selecting cell/ranges of cells for entering cell references as you create formulas
Semi-Selection
