Civil rights movement

A

Bruce argues that the black clergy in the United States has been the backbone of the civil rights movement
He sees religion as a ideological resource for the civil rights movement, because it provided beliefs that the believers could draw upon for motivation and support
Martin Luther King had also used Christianity to ensure that the movement had been seen as respectable

Q

New Christian right

A

This is a politically and morally conservative protestant, fundamentalist movement
The aims of this movement is seeking nothing less than to take America back to God
They wish to make abortion homosexual and divorce illegal
Wants to ban sex education in schools
And they focus on promoting traditional values

Ao3
The moral majority was small in number and the non-Christian right has not been able to force the implementation of policies such as banning abortion so their impact on social change is minimal

Not all social social change is necessarily progressive
The Taliban had been the most extreme form of religious regime ever witnessed, and this has been based on a strict interpretation of the Quran
