Examining Links between Respiration and Body Systems 1.13 Flashcards
What does respiration rely on?
Body systems
Name 3 body systems related to respiration.
Digestive system, breathing system and circulatory system.
How is glucose, which needed for respiration, produced?
Glucose is produced by the digestion of carbohydrates in the digestive system.
How is oxygen brought into the body?
By the breathing system.
What does the circulatory system do?
It carries all the reactants and products to and from the cells.
What is the breathing system?
Takes oxygen into the body and passes carbon dioxide out.
What is the circulatory system?
The heart and blood vessels that transport essential substances around the body in blood.
What is the digestive system?
Group of organs that together enable digestion of food.
Because respiration and some body systems rely on one another…
Finish the sentence.
There would be problems if either respiration or the body system did not function properly.
What happens if the digestion of carbohydrates is inefficient?
There may not be enough glucose for respiration.
What happens if the circulatory system is damaged?
This decreases the amounts of glucose and oxygen delivered to cells.
What are leaves used for in respiration?
For making glucose.
What happens, in a plant, after the glucose is made?
The glucose is then dissolved and transported around the plant in a system of tubes called phloem.
What is phloem?
Tissue made up of long tubes that transport glucose made in leaves of a plant to other plants.
What are phloem tubes usually compared with?
Blood vessels
