- provided pps with lists of words to assess memory through recall of correct sequences which has low mundane realism - people remember things like conversations but not normally word lists so findings may not represent real life memory
- study took place in lab where words were shown to pps in controlled setting with low ecological validity - pps may have changed behaviour from real life and tried harder to learn words unlike everyday use of memory
