2.2.9 - objectivity, reliability and validity Flashcards
what does reliability refer to?
the consistency of findings from research
what is test-retest reliability?
when the findings of a study are consistent and reliable so we can trust that these findings will happen again and again
what is internal validity and what are examples of it?
the extent to which the outcome of the study is the direct result of the manipulated IV eg. construct and predictive validity
what is construct validity?
the extent to which the test measures what it claims to measure
what is predictive validity?
the extent to which results from a test or study can predict future behaviour
what is external validity and what are examples of it?
the extent to which the findings of a study apply to other people and situations eg. ecological and population validity
what is ecological validity?
the extent to which the findings of a study can be generalised to other situations
what is population validity?
the extent to which the findings of a study can be generalised to other populations than those used in the sample
what does objectivity refer to?
being impartial and judgement free
why is objectivity important?
it ensures results are reliable and valid
