What are some of the antidepressant medications?
Selective serotonin inhibitor reuptake (SSRI) SNRI
MAOI tricyclic
- What does MAIO function
Chemicals are in vesicles and then get released into the synapse. These chemicals try to attach themselves to the dendrites receptors. The ones not connected to the dendrite receptors get killed off by enzymes. Maio destroys the enzymes.
What are the problems with MAIO
You can not eat certain foods because of significant blood pressure increases.
Tricyclic
Block reuptake if chemicals go back into the vesicles, has many side effects can not swallow, excessive sweating, drowsiness, and dry mouth
SSIR
It is the same as tricyclic blocks off serotonin neurotransmitters for reuptake.
- What is the difference between SSRI and tricyclic medications
Tricyclic medications have many side effects, and SSRIs have fewer side effects.
What is electro-compulsive therapy?
Used to treat severe depression must have had medications and psychotherapy. It is the last resort. Increases Serotonin, norepinephrine , and dopamine levels
